Fight Gone Bad V

The count down begins….

The annual Fight Gone Bad 5 is scheduled for September 25, 2010!

Capital has a strong tradition of blurring the lines between fitness, fun and community service. This event is MADE for this :) .

During Fight Gone Bad III Melissa Lopes and I put it on the line with a bet: whoever raised fewer funds would have to drink ONE Beer and eat FIVE Big Bite Hot Dogs from 7-11. During Fight Gone Bad IV Iman Achhal and Matt Tudor did the same, but it became which box raised the most funds. I placed BOTH videos below :) .

This year Casey O’Donnell from Alexandria and Iman Achhal from Loudoun will compete in this this most unholy of Capital traditions.

This event is OPEN TO ANYONE. So BJJ, Muay Thai, MMA and Yoga peeps who want to get in, awesome.

Heat Effects on Kids
Ambient temperatures and humidity are on the rise. With the hot weather comes concerns for active kids. Children heat up faster than adults do and heat sources affect them more rapidly. Heat related illness is one sports “injury” that can be avoided. The following guidelines can help to ensure a safe and healthy summer.

  1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate- it is extremely important children drink plenty of fluids before, during and after exercise. Even at the pool.
  2. Keep the sun at bay- sunburn diminishes the effectiveness of the sweat mechanism, and thereby, decreases the body’s ability to cool itself. Sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before going outside and reapplied every two hours.
  3. Choose exercise attire carefully- children should wear light-colored clothing to reflect radiant heat, and light weight and loose fitting to allow for evaporation of sweat.
  4. Consider a change in venue- plan exercise session and events with surface and times in mind. Avoid midday workouts when heat and pollutants are highest.
  5. Encourage Responsibility- encourage kids to take responsibility for their own health. Make them aware that drink breaks and cool down periods are not going to slow them down.

Remember we usually have our Saturday WODs outside so please dress appropriately and bring water bottles.
