  • Fight Gone Bad V

July 27, 2010 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

    The count down begins….

The annual Fight Gone Bad 5 is scheduled for September 25, 2010!

Capital has a strong tradition of blurring the lines between fitness, fun and community service. This event is MADE for this .

During Fight Gone Bad III Melissa and Jeremy put it on the line with a bet: whoever raised fewer funds would have to drink ONE Beer and eat FIVE Big Bite Hot Dogs from 7-11. During Fight Gone Bad IV Iman Achhal and Matt Tudor did the same, but it became which box raised the most funds. See BOTH videos below .

This year Casey O’Donnell from Alexandria and Iman Achhal from Loudoun will compete in this this most unholy of Capital traditions.

This event is OPEN TO ANYONE. So BJJ, Muay Thai, MMA and Yoga peeps who want to get in, awesome.

    Paleo Fat Loss Challenge Results

July 26, 2010 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

Results are in, and EVERYONE did an amazing job with the Paleo challenge for 45 days. Just because you might not’ve won the overall prize, doesn’t mean that you didn’t win for yourself.

Please don’t throw away all of your progress now. Try to incorporate Paleo nutrition into your lives going forward.

The overall winner (person who lost the highest percentage of his/her starting bodyfat): Jerome Winters (with a 52.8% improvement in bodyfat % from original…He dropped 12.2% bodyfat.)

A close 2nd place goes to Joe Cheadle (with a 49.4% change— he dropped 8.9%).

For ‘honorable mention’, the top female was Joanna Turpin with a 33.7% improvement.

The overall winning team (highest % average bodyfat lost): Team Cavemen (with 29.06% lost on average)

Team Forged averaged a 27.53% bodyfat loss from original.

Remember these percentages are the % lost from original bodyfat.

A few other points I wanted to mention…As a GROUP, you guys lost over 267 lbs of FAT mass! Holy cats.

A few of the higher fat losses came from: Jerome Winters (Lost 23.3lbs of Fat), Gary Haugen (Lost 22.4lbs of Fat), Joe Cheadle and Nate Gonzales both lost over 18lbs of fat.

Again — great work everyone, and stay tuned for individual emails with your specific details.

No different age brackets. There will be three weight divisions, and the cut-off for each division will be determined after the weigh-ins to ensure competitors will be equally distributed in each bracket.

There will also be a women’s Absolute Division (no weight brackets) if more than two women show up to compete. If only one or two women show up then they will be placed into what will become co-ed brackets.

Kids will be divided by weight.

    Rules:
    - Kids/White Belt/Beginner = 4 Minutes = Straight ankle locks are the only foot/leg submissions allowed. No reaping the knee
    - Adult/Blue Belt/Intermediate = 5 Minutes = Straight ankle locks and knee bars are the only foot/leg submissions allowed. No reaping the knee.
    - Adult/Purple Belt & Above/Advanced = 6 Minutes = All ankle and leg submissions are allowed. Reaping the knee is allowed.

    No Gi Points:
    - Takedowns/Sweeps = 2 Points
    - – Points will be awarded for a takedown if an opponent’s back side touches the mat.
    - – If an opponent is taken down, and immediately reverses the position with a sweep or reversal, then the takedown points will not count. However, the sweep points will count. (No points will be rewarded for a reversal.)
    - – If an opponent applies a triangle choke, and ends up mounting another opponent, they will receive sweep points, but not mount points.
    - Takedowns/Throws To Dominant Position = 3 Points
    - Guard Pass = 3 Points
    - Full Mount = 4 Points
    - – A mount is established if the bottom opponent is on their back, side or on their stomach.
    - – A mount is established if the top opponent has both feet and at least one knee on the ground.
    - – An opponent may have one knee or foot over another opponent’s arm.
    - Back Mount/Back Grab (hooks in) = 4 Points
    - Three Count: A three count is used to consider that a position is established.
    - No points will be awarded for an athlete who attains a position while caught in a submission attempt. Points will only be awarded after the submission is completely defended.
    - In order to gain points for achieving the same position in a match, a new position must first be clearly established.

    Advantages:
    - An advantage will be awarded if one opponent clearly off balances another opponent, failing to achieve a throw or takedown.
    - An advantage will be awarded if one opponent sweeps another opponent, but the second opponent quickly gets back to his or her knees or feet.
    - An advantage will be awarded to an opponent for a near guard pass, where the second opponent must exert a great deal of energy to regain the guard.
