The Ultimate Fight Course™ and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
With the growing popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and success of the Ultimate Fighter reality television series, more and more people are becoming interested in Mixed Martial Arts ("MMA" or "No-Holds-Barred" or "NHB") competition, especially in Loudoun, Dulles, South Riding, Brambleton, Sterling, Ashburn, Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church and the greater Washington DC Metro and NOVA area. MMA is a style of competition in which fighters are allowed to use both striking and grappling martial arts to achieve victory by knockout ("KO"), submission ("tapout"), technical knockout/referee stoppage ("TKO") or judges' decision. Capital Jiu-Jitsu offers a variety of training opportunities to students interested in MMA, and our Ultimate Fight Course™, which incorporates Sean Douglas Muay Thai Kickboxing Kickboxing, CrossFit Elite Athlete Conditioning, Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and plenty of top-notch coaching, gives students the skills they need to excel in mixed martial arts competition.

Our Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Street Self-Defense course is, itself, a mixed martial art. Whereas most traditional martial arts like Karate, Tae Kwan Do and Judo focus on a limited range of combat, such as punching and kicking or takedowns and throws, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) addresses all ranges of combat — striking, clinching, takedowns, throws, ground grappling and submissions. Because Jiu-Jitsu consists of a complete strategy for winning a fight, BJJ practitioners excelled in early mixed martial arts competition against practitioners of other styles. As MMA progressed as a sport, all successful fighters realized the importance of learning Jiu-Jitsu, and knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is now a prerequisite for becoming a successful professional fighter. Because BJJ gives practitioners a complete strategy from all ranges of combat, many students who are not interested in becoming pro fighters choose to train exclusively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for self-defense. However, today's aspiring mixed martial artist in NOVA and DC needs not only grappling and submission wrestling skills, but also the devasting striking power and extreme athletic conditioning and general fitness that can only be found in Capital Jiu-Jitsu's South Riding/Loudoun/Brambleton and Alexandria/Arlington Academies.
In MMA, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Kick Boxing is an excellent compliment to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, because it focuses both on the striking range of combat and clinch-work/upper body grappling. Thai Boxing is widely regarded as a superior striking art for Mixed Martial Arts because the art includes only the most effective striking techniques. In other words, Thai boxing practitioners learn the knees, punches, kicks and elbows that are proven in MMA competition and, as such, are typically the most feared strikers in MMA. Training making the trip to one of our academies from nearby Chantilly, Ashburn, South Riding, Brambleton, Fairfax, Washington DC or anywhere in NOVA will hone your stand-up MMA ability and give you a fantastic cardiovascular workout.

As Ultimate Fighters realize that peak athletic performance is absolutely necessary to reach the upper echelon of Mixed Martial Arts competition and the UFC, CrossFit training becomes increasingly popular. Instead of building impractical beach muscles that limit endurance and explosive power, CrossFit focuses soley on increasing athletic performance through grueling, unconventional workouts that can whip any motivated participant into shape. By constantly varying its workouts, CrossFit enables ahtletes to reach peak performance and keeps things fun by constantly varying its workouts. Without CrossFit conditioning, a Mixed Martial Arts Fighter will have a difficult time becoming complete.
In The Capital Jiu-Jitsu Ultimate Fight Course™ students participate in Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Street Self-Defense, Sean Douglas Muay Thai Kickboxing Kick Boxing and CrossFit Elite Athlete Conditioning. The combined programs ensure a well-rounded Mixed Martial Arts skill-set and give students serious about training all the conditioning and technical abillity necessary to break into the MMA world.
